The install for truenas was very simple as it was something i had practiced multiple times as a VM on my pc to mess around with smb shares. I decided to install scale as the choice between core and scale seemed very easy for me as i felt that while core was a small bit faster scale had a far more promising future and had plenty of people working to improve its speed.
The install when smoothly and i had no issues. I set up the pool with a vdev of 6 drives in RAIDZ2 for 3.14tb of usable space (i also have the drives for another vdev but not the drive sleds). I was quite easily able to make a new account for my windows pc for a smb share which worked fine before also adding a proxmox storage for iso files and other peices of data (obviously using the best security and running the nfs shares as root).
I also set snapshots for every day and to be saved for 2 weeks which i feel is plenty.
