Windows does not like HDDs

So my plan when I started this was to move my linux mint install to my nvme ssd. The first thing I tried was shrinking my secondary windows partition but windows only let me do around 200gb when i needed at least 270gb I then moved to shrinking my linux mint install. However I quickly found out that you can’t do this while booted into linux mint. Luckily I still had my linux mint install usb so I booted from that and began a shrink. This took far longer than expected like 4-5 hours.

At the end of this I found that both of these partitions were seperated. I found online that in windows I could make a partition in one of them and then expand it to include the other section. However when I tried to do this I got a warning that this would make the disk into a dynamic disk making it unbootable which isn’t what I wanted.

So I downloaded aomie partition manager and managed to shrink the secondary windows partition further than windows allowed. This finally ment I had over 270gb. I tried to use aomie backupper but it needs a subscription to clone the system patition. I found a free offer they had done from the world wide IT outage. However I quickly discovered that it expired on the 2nd of august and I was doing this on the 3rd.

I ended up switching to disk genius which took around half an hour and worked fine. Once I was done I used bcdboot to add a boot entry for the new partition. However when I tried to boot to it it was so slow that I gave up after spend 10 minutes waiting at a black desktop after login in. So in the end I have changed nothing and may delete the new windows partition at some point.
