Today I decided to label my drives as while I know what they are on a software level I have no record of what slot is what letter and that is not the sort of thing you want to figure out during a drive death. Today I installed nextcloud through docker I’m using the Linux server image and the install was very smooth however when I got to the web UI it was slow and I mean anywhere from 5 seconds to 60 per click! But I continued thinking it was just running a background install and would soon speed up. I added my NAS as external storage which worked fine and then setup the recognize app which is basically facial regognision like your phone does where it groups the same people and lets you name them. ...

Today I moved my last 2 VMs (Kali and Android x86)off my Desktop on to my server it was really simple. I just exported the VMs as raw from Virtual Box then moved them to my server using scp once that was done I created a VM as normal on Proxmox and then deleted the boot drive and added the raw disk I had transferred.

So I recently tried to remove my Application Dataset on my TrueNAS scale NAS. It was just annoying seeing it constantly when i didn’t have any applications running through TrueNAS so went to remove it and it said it was busy. I thought that can’t be right I know there are no applications installed so I spent a while online and found out how to force remove the dataset and I did. ...

I started by cloning my windows VM template and that went fine my next job was to see what games I could share. Steam was easy apart from the amount of times I had to log in and out to make it work. And Xbox was even quicker with me just signing into microsoft store with my account and into xbox the the second account (the only game this doesn’t work for is minecraft java). The VM is only using integrated graphics however I will probably pass through my current gpu when I upgrade. But it can run most 2d games but struggles at games like minecraft and rocket league. ...

I decided I wanted to be able to get emails from my services as that is the mail method most of them support. For my mail server i decided to use mailcow rather than try to stitch together my own group of programs. The install was easy with no errors by simply just using a Docker compose file. Its smtp work fine with TrueNAS, Pterodactyl, Nextcloud, Proxmox and Passbolt however i could not get it working with Mealie. ...

One of the main reasons I was so happy with the server I got was the fact it included a DVD drive. This was very useful as the last DVD drive I had been using was in a old laptop and stopped working a few months earlier. I downloaded and extracted makemkv in a nfs share on my proxmox host os. I can then run the command “makemkvcon mkv dev:/dev/sr0 all .” this rips the disk to my nas which then allows me to put it though handbrake on a windows 11 vm.

Today I set up my DDNS for my domains that need to link to my dynamic public ip address. I followed this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI-XxnyWFnM by NetworkChuck which worked amazingly. I didn’t want to run it on its own vm so I made a ubuntu container in Proxmox and apart from mixing up api and global api keys I managed everything first try.

I began by trying to install pterodactyl as 2 separate containers on my main docker VM however this ended up having far to many issues for me to try and solve. My next idea was to use the ubuntu container and install them in there however this also didn’t work. In the end i just created a new VM and using this script (https://github.com/pterodactyl-installer/pterodactyl-installer). Which after a bit of fiddling with the ssl record and making the panel and the wing have unique domains then it finally worked. I also made sure that the servers are stored on a nfs share for easy backups. ...

I chose to use Pi hole for ad blocking and local dns as it has a large community and I have used it in the past. The install went fine and then i used http://firebog.net to get a list of ad blocks. The only issues I have run into is that I blacklisted a google link that stopped a lot of surchs i did and that it only prompts you to re loggin after you fail to do something. ...
